Diverses circonstances, puis la guerre, emp\u00each\u00e8rent mon \u0153uvre d\u2019affronter le public.<\/p>\n<p>En 1942, puis en 1944, au cours de manifestations consacr\u00e9es \u00e0 la danse et \u00e0 la po\u00e9sie, je me souvins de mes \u00e9bauches et je les repris sur les propres vers de Racine, notamment ceux du r\u00e9cit de Th\u00e9ram\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n<p>Tels ont \u00e9t\u00e9 les pr\u00e9liminaires de la chor\u00e9graphie que j\u2019ai compos\u00e9e pour un \u00ab&nbsp;d\u00e9coupage&nbsp;\u00bb de Jean Cocteau, avec une musique de Georges Auric, dont la sobre puissance et les accords tragiques accentuent l\u2019action avec bonheur. C\u2019est une \u00ab&nbsp;trag\u00e9die chor\u00e9graphique&nbsp;\u00bb et un reflet fid\u00e8le de la <em>Ph\u00e8dre<\/em> de Racine. Au verbe d\u00e9clam\u00e9, quasi incantatoire, du po\u00e8te se substitue le corps qui parle, le geste qui s\u2019affirme. Tout cela ne devient possible que moyennant une forte concentration, un resserrement, un d\u00e9pouillement tr\u00e8s pouss\u00e9 en ce qui concerne les danses des solistes, mises en valeur \u2013 effet de contraste \u2013 par le dynamisme des ensembles.<\/p>\n<p>Le visage des danseurs est un \u00e9cran, une succession de masques tragiques&nbsp;: non seulement il mime, mais encore il danse. La plupart du temps, la partie expressive, \u00ab&nbsp;narrative&nbsp;\u00bb en quelque sorte, est confin\u00e9e dans les traits du visage, lequel, en un sens, se s\u00e9pare du corps, \u00e9l\u00e9ment plastique et dynamique.
